The Haus Konstruktiv is located in the former Selnau electricity sub-station, one of the most distinctive icons of Zürich’s industrial architecture. The museum is the only such institution in Switzerland, one of just a few in Europe dedicated to historical and thematic exploration of concrete, constructive and conceptual art. The renovations of the landmarked building on the Löwenbräu Areal will be finished in 2012, then it will be partially extended and expanded with two high-rise buildings. During this time, the Kunsthalle Zürich is displaying its exhibitions at Museum Bärengasse.

With the worldwide increase in armaments, particularly of nuclear weapons, the protection of the civilian population also became an important issue for a neutral country like Switzerland.
For this reason, Switzerland’s Air Defense was transformed into a civil protection organization in the 1950s. Similar organizations exist today in many countries. The construction of secure shelters in residential buildings became obligatory throughout Switzerland as of 1963.
The Museum’s extensive collection includes numerous well-preserved original objects, such as blackout lamps, gas masks, field kitchens or food ration coupons.
Whether it be rescue equipment or surgical instruments, the exhibits on display convey a unique museum atmosphere.
For this reason, Switzerland’s Air Defense was transformed into a civil protection organization in the 1950s. Similar organizations exist today in many countries. The construction of secure shelters in residential buildings became obligatory throughout Switzerland as of 1963.
The Museum’s extensive collection includes numerous well-preserved original objects, such as blackout lamps, gas masks, field kitchens or food ration coupons.

It tells the story of infectious diseases such as the plague, leprosy, syphilis, smallpox, tuberculosis, polio, and Aids. The museum shows how medicines have evolved, explains how surgery used to be performed and illustrates the advances in anesthesia, asepsis, X-raying and blood substitute products which, since the 19th century, have allowed the development of modern surgery. Attitudes to patient treatments through history are also examined.

Paleontological Museum of the University of Zürich
This university museum houses an important collection of marine saurians and fish species from the Middle Triassic period around 230 million years ago. The core of the exhibition focuses on the superbly preserved and scientifically very valuable fossils from Monte San Giorgio, an UNESCO world heritage in Southern Ticino.

The Swiss National Museum was built by Gustav Gull in 1898 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first federal constitution. The National Museum houses Switzerland's most comprehensive collection of artifacts pertaining to its cultural heritage. The more than 100-year-old museum building is reminiscent of a fairytale castle. Surrounded by towers, the courtyard is a unique venue for superlative events. The past comes to life indoors: How did earlier generations live, think and feel? Their material legacy - from handicrafts to ordinary everyday objects - provides us with answers from the prehistoric age right through to the present day. The National Museum also stages special exhibitions on topics relevant to society, thus offering temporary changes in perspective.

Watch and Clock Museum Beyer Zürich
The Beyer Clock and Watch Museum in Zürich is home to one of the most significant private collections anywhere in the world. The museum has around 500 timepieces dating from 1400 B.C. to the present, starting out with basic non-mechanical clocks (sundials, scientific measuring instruments from the 16th and 17th centuries, oil clocks from southern Germany, hour-glasses and shepherd clocks) or magnificent clocks such as the Nuremberg tower clock dating from 1580.

The Museum of Zoology will transport you into the animal kingdom through sight, touch, and hearing.
Here both grown-ups and children can look through microscopes to study the beauty of tiny invertebrates or listen to the sounds of over 300 animals - from humming insects to whale songs. The variety of shapes, colors and structures in the animal world creates a sensation of awe and pleasure. The skeleton of a mammoth and the many models of rare and extinct species remind us of the changes taking place in the animal kingdom and of our responsibility for nature. Slide-shows, films and videos complete the exhibition.

Housed in one of the oldest corners of the old town, this beautiful collection of European toys from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century reflects the life of these periods in miniature.
